"They exchanged the truth of God for a lie" (Romans 1:25).
Lies tend to plague us like a stain. Stains are often hard to wash out, especially if that stain has been there a long time. You can wash it, spray it with stain remover, scrub it but the stain never fully goes away. When you look really close, you can still see the dim hint of a stain. This seems to also be true with lies. The longer we have been told a lie, the harder it is to believe the truth. But the more we tell ourselves the truth, the more the lie diminishes until, because of the Spirit, it is completely washed away and remembered no more.
In the beginning chapters of the book of Romans, Paul is explaining in his own terms the fall of humanity. He states towards the end of the first chapter that "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie" (v. 25). Now the enemy is deceptive. He whispers lies into our ears in subtle ways, but there comes a point in life where we must choose to either believe what the enemy is telling us or what God is telling us. I was talking to a friend some time ago about this very topic and she made the point that the voice that tells the lie is louder than the voice that speaks the truth. My friends, we have a choice to make. We must decide which voice we are going to allow to ring louder in our minds, the lie or the truth. We must choose to either "exchange the truth of God for a lie" or believe what the Almighty says about not only Himself but also what He says about us.
Lies are a plague. They infect our minds and spread throughout our souls. What we believe in our minds dictates our actions and attitudes. Is what you are believing a lie or is it the truth? If you are not sure, look at your daily actions. What does your attitude tell you that you are believing? If I am truly honest with myself, I cannot deny the fact that I am believing lies. And so I face a crossroad today. Will I continue to walk the path of believing the lies or will I exchange the lie for the truth? The truth will set you free, but the road of freedom is not easy. Its the straight and narrow. It is the road less traveled. But the Lord will be with you. And He will be with me for He has promised that He will never leave me nor forsake me (Joshua 1:5). That is guaranteed.
Readers, I hope and pray that, along with me, you will begin to exchange the lies you are believing for the truth that He is telling you. For there is nothing greater than freedom. Will you walk this road with me? E.
